10 weeks after opening

Twentysix Cafe and Bistro is now up and running...serving breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea as well as gourmet evenings on weekends. We've had very good reviews and have regulars who come in more than twice a week and foodies who religiously book for our gourmet evenings.

It was an exciting start...truly a risk as we weren't sure how we would be welcomed in the area. And what an amazing start we've had.

Last Saturday evening, we had a French cuisine night, a 4-course set menu - fully booked with quite a few people on the waiting list. We had Escargots a la Bourgignonne, a Foie Gras terrine and Soupe a l'oignon for starters, Daube d'agneau Provencal, Morue en Papillote, Ratatouille et Crottin Chavignol for mains, a delightful cheese course of Vacherin, Camembert Rustique and Bresse Bleu before finishing with Tarte aux Poires, Creme Brulee and Mousse aux Chocolat using Valrhona. It was a successful evening with only high praises from everyone who attended.

We are hoping 'A Night of Local Game' this coming Saturday would have the same reviews. Menu includes 'Seared Local Venison with a blackberry and red wine glaze' as a starter, Trio of Game Birds (Partridge Rossini, Pheasant breast, Pigeon wrapped in prosciutto) with a port wine sauce, rosti potatoes and autumn vegetables of red cabbage, parsnips and golden beetroot as a main course.

It's a work in progress but fingers (still) crossed, we are on the right track.
