Tea Leaves

17th of August 2010. Opening day is getting closer.

Crockery, cutlery and crystal have been decided and ordered. Uniforms have been designed and made. Packaging have been designed and ordered that includes pale blue and pale green satin ribbons with our name. Business cards, letterheads, blank menus and stickers have gone to press. Leaflets have been designed. Press release have been written, waiting for the word "go."

Suppliers have been chosen, the right coffee blend tested and tasted and the opening team have been hired.

Now, another decision to make, loose tea leaves or tea in biodegradable silk tea bags? Afternoon tea is very much an English tradition and tea is being drunk by 80% of the country each day. I consider this to be an important decision that needs to be thought out very carefully. The ceremony involved in serving proper afternoon tea is something I've always enjoyed. It is something that, if we do it properly with novel ideas, it will be talked about and word will go around like wildfire.

Richard and I went to an exhibit in London a few weeks back. It was recommended to us by our coffee supplier and it was there that we stumbled upon Mighty Leaf Tea Company who was doing all these fabulous tea blends, some of which are organic. Tea blends like Pear and Caramel, Wild Blossom and Berries, Chocoate Mint Truffle and Ginger Tea Tropical...we could see the possibilities in this concept.

My ever useful coffee supplier also mentioned that I should look at stump teapots by ForLife Design of California. Imagine our delight when we saw the colourful teapots and the fact that Tate Gallery in London was also using the same teapots. No questions asked, it was definitely loose leaf tea with the gorgeous stump teapots.

Simple concept, attention to detail, a reason for people to talk about us...fingers crossed, this should be a good start.
