The Refurb

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

What have I got myself into?

I thought taking on a cafe instead of a proper restaurant would be less stressful but as each day goes by, we find different jobs that need to be done before we can actually open. The attention to detail required to meet the standard we want to achieve is quite staggering. So many decisions to make. It can't be just light blue, it's got to be the right Farrow and Ball Borrowed Light blue. It can't just go on the walls, it's got to be on the woodwork and "Pointing" on the walls, "Clunch" on the outside, "Cornforth White" on the cupboards...etc etc etc. It just goes on and on and on...

Clay fisherman's lamp and not cream, tongue and groove on the booth seats and counter but not on the walls, dado railing, archetrave, single phase, tri phase, emulsion, eggshell....the things I have learnt and the realisation that there is a lot more to learn. What goes on behind the scenes before I actually take over and run the operations side of things, is a big learning curve for me.

Not to mention the conveyancing process before all this began.

I have to remind myself in the middle of donning a paintbrush and painting the undercoat for what looks like a-hundred-mile-long-wall-that-I have-to-finish-before-the-day-ends, the reason why I took this on. It's part of a dream, small though it may be, it is mine. And, at the end of the day, I can proudly say that I painstakingly, with my Richard and my two boys, built this and put it together...as a family.

May it be the success that it deserves to be...
